While LLMs, semantic SEO, and vector embeddings are changing how we approach SEO, n-gram analysis remains a quick and great-to-have tool. Here’s why:
- Lexical Cues are Still Important for Search Engines: While LLMs focus on context and semantics, n-grams give you granular insights into exact word usage and frequency, adding another layer to your content
- Identify Keyword Patterns & Enhance On-Page SEO: N-grams highlight recurring phrases and terms across your site or competitors’, revealing gaps and opportunities.
- Quick Competitor Insights: Analyze content themes and keyword density without the heavy computing resources or signing up for expensive tools
How to Use It
- Make a copy of this worksheet
- Enter your site's URL in cell C4 (config worksheet)
- Enter all your competitors' URLs in cells B8 and beyond (we recommend your SERP competition)
- Click "N-gram Tools" > "Analyze N-grams" in the menu bar
- Wait a couple of seconds and voilà! You will get a pop-up when it's done
- Find common N-grams across your competition and find potential keywords and topics you are not covering
